Making Medicine

My artwork honors textures and stories. We are all products of our past; each of our individual stories has in some way been handed down to us.  We have based our belief of who we are from family stories, photographs, and our growing awareness of the reality of the world around us.

Often, the passage of time calls this reality into question.  These ideas influence my art.

I categorize myself as a “Symbolic Realist” painter.

My art incorporates universal and personal symbols in a representational manner.  My images are personal to my experiences, yet understood and appreciated by a host of different backgrounds and cultures. Incorporating pattern and texture in my work, I often utilize simplified imagery, leather, wallpaper or fabric patterns to symbolize the “domestic stage” that life is lived out on.

Often, my art is influenced by the passage of time; how things change as well as how they do not.

Some Rips Can't Be Reparied

After living in Atlanta and Philadelphia for years, my family and I moved back “home” to the Black Hills. I work out of my home studio in Spearfish, South Dakota.  Studio visits may be arranged by appointment by calling 605-722-3594.
